We partner with K–12 educators, universities, and civic organizations to extend the reach of democratic education far beyond Ithaca. Whether through training programs for public servants, curricular resources for schools, or capacity-building for civil society groups, our goal is the same: equip more people with the knowledge and tools to strengthen democracy where they live and work.
DC Summer Policy Institute: Democracy Policy in the World
Reaching young people to shape their interest in democracy and policy, this new initiative is a pre-college summer program based in Washington D.C. The two-week intensive program focuses on providing the next generation of democratic citizens an introduction to college-level public policy coursework and exposure to careers in civic organizations, international institutions, and public policy. With new curricular innovations we aim to support students in recognizing themselves as informed, engaged, and activated global democratic citizens and equip them with basic diplomatic skills to analyze policy issues and support democracy locally and globally.
Freedom Academy
Cornell partners with DemoLab to support Freedom Academy — a free, online civic education platform that builds critical thinking, democratic leadership, and active participation. Developed in Costa Rica and designed for the world, Freedom Academy connects the principles of freedom and democracy to real-world action.
